2. Exporting Documents for use in InDesign CS (Save Back)
This update allows InDesign CS users to open InDesign CS2 documents that have been exported to the InDesign Interchange (.inx) format. In order to open InDesign CS2 .inx files in InDesign CS, you must first install this Adobe InDesign CS 3.0.1 April 2005
(CS2 Compatibility Update).
3. Important Notes
Due to InDesign Interchange (.inx) file format changes, older InDesign CS .inx files will not open in a version that has the InDesign CS 3.0.1 April 2005 (CS2 Compatibility update) applied. Before applying this update, open any of your existing CS .inx files in a build of InDesign CS that does not have the April 2005 update applied, and save them out as .indd files so they can then be opened after this update is installed.
This update enables the Save Back workflow from InDesign CS2 to InDesign CS only.
Please note that InDesign 2.x will not open InDesign CS or InDesign CS2 Interchange format (.inx) files.
The InDesign CS 3.0.1 April 2005 (CS2 Compatibility Update) includes fixes from the original InDesign CS 3.0.1 updates (posted in March 2004 and August 2004) as well as new fixes. Users who installed the original update still must install the April 2005 version in order to receive the new fixes. Note that the original updates are no longer available separately.
4. Resolved Issues
This section provides a list of the resolved technical problems also included as part of InDesign CS 3.0.1 April 2005 (CS2 Compatibility Update). Note that these issues are stated as the original problem statement, and not the corrected behavior. For general product usage and additional troubleshooting information, visit the Adobe Product Support Knowledgebase at http://www.adobe.com/support/products/indesign.html, or choose Online Support from InDesign’s Help menu.
Note that new fixes included in the April 2005 Update are indicated with an asterisk (*) next to the bug number (e.g., [0000000]*).
Text and Fonts
Performance of “Select All” is very slow when applied to a story, if one or more text attributes within that story contain a large number of unique values. [1015009]
In some cases, text entered at the beginning of a line does not move to the line above it even when the line above it has available space. (Single-Line Composer only) [1011844]
If a typeface family contains two faces with names that could be considered the default face (e.g., Adobe Bodoni Book and Bodoni Roman), situations arise where InDesign CS does not apply one of the two faces. Note: The InDesign CS 3.0.1 April 2005 (CS2 Compatibility Update) does not address this issue for all typefaces. [1000447]
Parts of text can become hidden when opening a document if the minimum value is set equal to the desired value for Word Spacing or Letter Spacing in the Justification dialog box. [1005669]
Extended characters are stripped from the names of imported Microsoft Word® paragraph styles. [654940]
Consonants are sometimes added before hyphenation points in the Swedish language dictionary. [510388]
Attempting to place text insertion points directly before or after an inline Note in InDesign CS or InCopy CS Layout View is difficult because the Note finger icon appears instead of the I-beam. Note: The Hit zone for selecting inline Notes was changed to the upper half of the Notes. Click near the bottom half of a Note to place a text insertion point. [1010810] *
The “Fill with Placeholder Text” command is enabled in the context menu for a locked story if that story contains more than one frame, or if you added a second frame to an already locked story. Selecting this option then modifies the locked story. [1036188] *
Some InDesign CS documents containing many linked stories take a very long time to open in InCopy CS. [1089090] *
Next Page Number feature in InDesign CS reports the incorrect page number if a Jump frame overlaps with a linked frame on a hidden layer. [1113702] *
Extra, empty text frames are created when opening an InDesign CS document with InCopy stories in narrow text frames. [1047623] *
After duplicating an object containing text that has both an applied paragraph style and a trailing linebreak, the last linebreak always defaults back to the font Times (Mac) or Times New Roman (Win) in InDesign CS. [1028233] *
Import Text

Layout
When attempting to drag multiple objects selected via Toggle to Pointer with the Text tool active, only the object under the cursor will move if the cursor is over the object’s fill. [0648998]

Graphics
Tinted grayscale Illustrator CS objects paste into InDesign CS with 100% black fill on Windows. [0656115]
InDesign CS unexpectedly quits due to buffer overflow when placing malformed PNG files in a document. [1063372] *
Placed JPEG with an EXIF resolution setting other than 72 ppi is incorrectly resized after being edited in Photoshop and then choosing to Update Link in InDesign CS. [1149794] *

Links
Links in an InDesign CS document on Mac OS X are sometimes reported as missing if the linked file was located on non-Apple file server connected via NFS or SMB protocol. Note that NFS and SMB are network protocols used to connect Mac clients to non-Mac servers. These can be UNIX or Windows-based server OSs. [1022939]
Hyperlinks
Hyperlinks to other pages within a book are broken after exporting the document to PDF from InDesign CS. [1002493]
PDF Export & Bookmarks
Bookmarks do not link to their proper pages in a PDF exported from a book file in InDesign CS. [0656127]
After updating a Table of Contents and then exporting the document to PDF, bookmarks are missing in the resulting PDF file. [1003042]
Print
Edges of images are jagged on output when the images overlap, are not rotated, have differing resolutions and use transparency. [1000975]
After saving an InDesign document under a new name from InDesign CS and then choosing to print it to PostScript, the default File name in the Save PostScript File dialog uses the original file name instead of the new one. [1144941] *
Prepress
When omitting images in export PDF from InDesign CS, any OPI images are flipped after high-resolution image replacement through an OPI server. [1149379] *
Info Palette
After placing a graphic in an InDesign document, quitting the application, relaunching, and then selecting text in a document, information from the previously selected graphic appears in the Info palette. [1002781]
Text statistics from a previous selection display in the Info palette after placing or selecting a new graphic in a document. [0655950]
Info palette information does not refresh for newly selected objects if a graphic was selected while choosing Hide Options and then collapsing the palette. [0651292]
UI/Palettes
InDesign CS palettes are not aware of screen size, and thus can then become unusable
(e.g., can’t be resized) when switching from either higher to lower resolution or bigger to smaller monitor screens. Note: The fix for this bug is Mac only and limited to single-monitor setups. [1097542] *

Arrow heads in documents created in InDesign 2.0.2 and earlier appeared to shorten after converting to InDesign CS. [1003957]
