The New York State Department of Transportation Highway Emergency Local Patrol (HELP) has proven to be a key element in our overall freeway incident management program.
Under this program, three dedicated, motorist-assist vehicles patrol during the weekday morning and afternoon peak hours.
These patrols provide services such as tire changing, gasoline, jump starts and minor repairs, and can safely push a disabled vehicle out of traffic. These services reduce congestion and improve safety by providing for quicker incident detection, verification, response and clearance.
The trucks, which cover 45 miles of highways, are dispatched from the TMC. The HELP operators work with police highway patrols to improve safety at incident locations and quickly repair/remove disabled vehicles.
Motorists can use the HELP Truck's cellular telephone to notify family, friends or work of their delay. The TMC will arrange for a tow, when necessary.
Receiving funding assistance from the Federal Highway Administration, these services are provided at no cost to the motorist БЕСПЛАТНО!!!!!. They reduce congestion and improve safety by providing for quicker incident detection, verification, response and clearance.
